My Flag Debate

For our Prep for Learning we were asked to write a debate or argument about the pros and cons of changing the flag.

I know what you are thinking now, well I think so any way. You're thinking, 'what is the point, the flag referendum is over'. I still think the flag needs changing and they already spent 26 million on this, and now it is just over. Well I have taken to the Internet and seen what people think.
I have also added my own opinion.

What I Am Thinking...
At the start of this whole thing and last year I was so against the idea of changing the flag but I read this article and in a way it changed my whole point of view and that is where most of my feelings are coming from during this.
I feel that they have spent so much time and money and everything else that it is a waste to in a way just give up on the idea. I don't know how it started in the first place but the more I read about the more the idea seemed right to me.

To back up my opinion I have gone and found images of the All Blacks uniform and the Blacksticks uniform. Now I have a rough idea of what you're thinking again, 'Blacksticks????'. The Blacksticks are New Zealand's International Hockey Teams going to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Two examples, both with a Silver Fern instead of the flag.

Moving on, Kyle Lockwood has written this to go with his flag design "I feel like the fern with it's multiple points represents multiple cultures coming together and growing upward into the future". I couldn't agree with him more and just think about all the cultures,

  • Maori
  • Kiwi
  • Indians
And think about all the tourists that come and go and then love us so much they will move here because speaking for myself at least our country is the greatest.

Continuing, I have seen things and heard things about the flag that it could be changed to looks like a corporate logo. Well give me 5 good reasons why that should matter. I'll give you a second to think. Anything good come to mind. Didn't think so, why does it matter if it looks like a corporate logo. Corporations spend a lot of money on making their logo perfect. And we have done the same. I don't know about you but I tend to remember logos more than flags.

So many people have argued we shouldn't change the flag because so many fought for it, but did they. I think not, I think they fought for our country not the flag. Yes they may have fought under the flag but they did not fight for it and I will stick with that unless something huge moves me and by huge  mean gigantic.

To be honest I think I could go on and on but I will leave it at that. Now moving on, The Public's Response.

This is the Stuff news page about it, please read through it and post in the comments what you would have/have voted for and why.

My Easter Weekend

On Wednesday I had a boring trip down to Palmerston North for my Easter Weekend Holiday.
On Thursday I competed in the Weet Bix Tryathlon in Palmerston North and received a medal for completing it. The event is not timed because it is just a fun event (not really). I had to swim 200 metres, cycle 4 kilometres and run 1.5 kilometres.

On Friday to be honest I cannot remember what I did.

Saturday, I didn't do much just read and read a bit more. While I was down there I finished the books

  • The Diary of Anne Frank
  • The Second Forever
  • The Boy In Striped Pyjamas
Sunday we went to the Foxton Easter Sunday Fair and I bought a Minion Cap and a card that has a 3D design inside.

On Monday I went and saw my Great Grandad, Grandpop and Uncle Bill. On Tuesday we stopped in Taihape and Hunterville on our way home.

And that just about sums up my weekend.

Book Character Day 2016

On the 18th of March 2016 (today) our school had Book Character Day. I came as Tris from the Divergent Series.
I wore my black jacket and black pants.

Who Is Tris?

Tris is a character from the trilogy Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant. The series has been made into movies as well.

If you have read the book you will know she was from Abnegation and when she moved to a different Faction, Dauntless, she was The First Jumper during Initiation. She was called 'Stiff' because she was from Abnegation. Her and Four were in a relationship for all 3 books/movies.

39 Clues

I am now reading the book 39 Clues: Maze of Bones for the school Literature Circles.
I finished reading The Recruit and started reading The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime but couldn't finish it because of the language and themes being inappropriate. I then moved onto SoMuch2Do and finished the book. So here I am reading 39 Clues.

Maths

At school we have been using a new site called Sumdog. I like it but I think that it needs activities instead of just games. The games on it are based on your needs and revision. You will also learn new skills using Sumdog including speed.

Lets Go Walking

On Tuesday we went for a walk around our Community for our topic of the Term 'Our Community'.

I was one of about 6 or 7 that took photos while we walked. We took photos in front of signs and in front of shops and the highlight of the walk would have been the ice blocks we got at one of the shops.

Here are a few of the photos.

What Have You Been Up To

Hey Everyone,

On Friday school had no Internet Connection and to be honest Room 3 didn't know what to do. We ended up doing Maths which was Tessellations and we did singing with Room 6 to help prepare for assembly.

On Thursday we went to Rosehill Intermediate to do Technology. We are doing Hard Materials.
Here is a photo.

On Wednesday we had Bible first thing in the morning. We sang a few songs. We learnt about our teacher's hometown and school.

To be honest I cannot remember what we did on Monday and Tuesday.

More Learning...

We are continuing with the topic 'Our Community' and creating books about Our Community.

We are also using Figure It Out Basic Facts Math Books to help us during Maths Time.

Bringing Up The Past

In this post I am bringing up a post I posted last year.

The post was about what my name means.

So here goes..

My Name is Kaitlyn and it means Pure One, Clear and Innocent.

This is the link I used LINK.

My Project

Over the past 5 weeks we have had a project to complete called 'Where In The World'.
We had to choose a country and find information about it. There was a catch though. We had to do it all by hand and couldn't print anything off.

Here is my finished project.

Post in the comments what country I did and what my project is.

Environmental Day

On Wednesday 2nd of March 2016 we had a School Environmental Day.

There were many jobs in need of completion and these are just a few.

  1. Worm Farms
  2. Trees being Planted
  3. Growing Unit being Tidied
  4. Gardens Weeded
  5. And Many More
Here are a few photos from the day...

Have A Read...

I found this while scrolling through things about the flag.

I think this is a great point of view from somewhere else.

I think this will change your point of view because it certainly changed mine.
