My Weekly Reflections :-)

On Monday we used Studyladder to do some Statistics Mathematics. We started doing Fitness again and we did Olympic Tabloids. Every group was a different country.

On Tuesday we continued on our Olympic Projects that are due in at the end of next week. For the Olympic Projects I have chosen the Sports

  • Women's Hockey
  • Rowing Men's Doubles and Rowing Men's Single Sculls
  • Men's Shotput

On Wednesday I continued on my Olympics Project and also continued on my animal. The animal I chose was the Okapi.

On Thursday we had Technology and we used plasticine to create a model of what our design may look like. We are making candles and mine has KC on one side, NZ on the opposite and I have a treble clef with the word MUSIC and on the opposite side to that I have a Hockey Stick, Umpiring Whistle and the word HOCKEY.

Today is Friday and we have tidied our class and school because our new teacher is being officially welcomed and the opening of our Makerspace room.

The Weekend Has Been Again...

The weekend has gone and I have had an eventful weekend at Hockey.

On Saturday we were at the turf at 8:00 to host a regional tournament. We first played against Waikato and lost 3-2 but we did really well because we scored the first goal.

We also played against Auckland the same day and lost 7-0.

On Sunday we had finals and we had to play twice. Once against Tauranga and we lost 3-0 and we lost 3-0 to Bay of Plenty placing us 7th of 7 teams.

Friday 12 August 2016

Cross Country

Today at 1:00pm all of the school is going to the Principals Farm to run Cross Country. For my year we have to run 2 and a half laps of a paddock on the farm. I am not looking forward to Cross Country because I do not enjoy running.

Tuesday 9 August 2016

My Weekend Reflections

On Friday I had Hockey (Like Every Friday). First I umpired at 5pm then played at 7pm. We won
6-0.

On Saturday I umpired 2 games. One at 9am and one at 10am. The first game I umpired was won
29-0 and the second game I cannot remember.

On Sunday I had to be at the turf at 7:15 for Boot Camp and then the team practised for half an hour before we played against Auckland Diocesan and lost 2-1. :-(

My Weekend

Friday: On Friday after school I had Hockey. I started at 5pm umpiring and then at 7pm I played.
During the game one of our players was carded and had to spend 2 minutes on the sideline. She was carded for not being the required 5 metres on a free hit.

Saturday: On Saturday I umpired 2 junior games.
The first game was a harder game to umpire because the coach was being very rude and the other umpire and I were sworn at multiple times. At the end of the game the coach refused to sign the card because apparently the score wasn't correct.
The second game I umpired was a lot easier and free flowing to umpire.

That evening at 5pm I went to the PISC (Pukekohe Indian Sports Club) Junior Disco for Hockey. It was really fun being with friends from Hockey at the disco.

Sunday: On Sunday I had to be at Hockey training at 7:15am to do a fitness Boot Camp before we trained. We did multiple things incuding
  • Bronco Run
  • Run to Turf
  • Commando Crawl
  • Push Ups
  • Burpies
  • Star Jumps
  • Squats
  • And more!!
And after Boot Camp to finish our Warm Up we ran the distance to the turf to train.

I was told at training that if the team ever has a stroke that I will be the one to take it.
A stroke is a one on one with the Keeper and you have to flick or push the ball into the goal from the spot in front of the goal.

After Hockey I didn't do anything for the rest of the day.

And that is my Weekend. :-)

Monday 4 July 2016

My Weekend

My weekend was really fun but both days I had to get up really early. Starting Friday I played a game and we won 15-0. I then umpired and it was really cold. We all got club jerseys and they are Green with PISC (Pukekohe Indians Sports Club) down the side, the logo on the front and your name on the back. I got my jersey after umpiring though.

Saturday I had to get up early to be at Hockey at 8:30 to umpire at 9am. And then I umpired at 10 and 11am as well. When we went home we cleaned up most of the time and then watched Zootopia. I didn't enjoy the movie much so I went and watched The 5th Wave in my bedroom.

On Sunday I had to be up even earlier to be at the Turf to have Representative Training at 8:30. After training (and getting hit by multiple hockey balls) I went to a friends house and we watched The 5th Wave because I hadn't finished it the day before. After we stopped watching the movie we had a Nerf War with her brother. I was then dropped back to Hockey to umpire a Senior Woman's game and then taken home by another friend. So I wasn't home pretty much all of Sunday.

I really enjoyed it on Sunday and would do it again.

Monday 27 June 2016

My Wet Weekend

On Friday I had Hockey and we had our hardest game so far this season and we won 3-2. I then umpired after I played and it was really cold because I umpired at 7pm.

Saturday was even colder and I had to umpire in the cold rain and the wind was also really cold. After I had got completely wet and finished my 2 games I went home (via the supermarket) and got changed and went back to Hockey to 3rd umpire an Intercity game. I then umpired a senior mens game and went home to see my sister and her friends getting ready to go to the movies. I watched TV until they got home and then went to my room and watched more TV until my other sister went to bed so I watched TV on the laptop. When I woke the next morning (Sunday) I went shopping with a $50 Whitcoulls Voucher to buy my sisters birthday presents. I also got 4 whistles and a new pencil case. My littlest sister got teeth that light up in crazy colours. My day was pretty great when my sisters friends left but then my mums friends turned up for afternoon tea. I was happy whilst I played with an 8 week old kitten. I then cleaned my room and watched more TV.

My weekend was wet, cold, happy and pretty average. It wasn't the greatest weekend but it wasn't the worst either.

About Me Refresher

I am 12 and my birthday is in October. My name is Kaitlyn and I go to Hunua School in South Auckland. I am one of three school leaders, two girls and a boy. I play Hockey for a club and I have been a Counties Manukau Representative for the previous 2 years and I have trialed for the team this year. If I make the team this will be my third year and the tournament is being held in Hamilton. I umpire Hockey and have been to a Central Counties Regional Hockey Tournament to umpire. I umpire Senior Men's and Junior Hockey. I participate in the UNSW ICAS  Exams and have received marks from Participation to a High Distinction in Digital Technologies. Last year I played the piano and got high marks in my Practical and Theory Exam. I do not play any instruments currently though. At School Prize Giving last year I received 2 trophies/cups, they were the Year 7 Achievement Cup and the Digital Technologies Trophy.

Please feel free to ask questions about my school or myself. Also check out the class blog.

Maths

For Maths we have moved from Geometry to Algebra and we have been learning about number sequences. I really like number sequences because I find them easy to remember like number plates and pin numbers. I think I find them easy to remember because I like numbers and I am always adding numbers even if I am not doing maths.

Auckland Live

Yesterday (14 June) Rooms 3, 1, 2 and 5 went to Auckland Live held at the Auckland Town Hall.
We were split into 2 groups, Years 5-8 and Years 2-4 were in a group with Hillsborough Primary School. The year 5-8 group was Group 1 and the year 2-4 group were group 2.

I was in group 1 and we started at the Interactive Dance Program. When we got there we were split again into 2 groups. My group had to copy the moves on the screen and if you stepped forward the dance on the screen moved faster. When we swapped we learnt about dancing about preparing for something. We were then split into 4 groups to show preparing. My group was cooking and we made dance moves for

  • Washing your hands
  • Putting your apron on
  • Tying your apron
  • Cutting the food
  • Getting a pot
  • Turning the gas on on the stove top
  • Sliding the vegetables into the pan
  • Sprinkling
  • Squeezing
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Stirring
  • Plating
  • Cutlery
  • Pouring Drinks
  • Serving
We then showed the rest of the group and played bang while we waited for the other group to finish doing the interactive dance.

We then went back to the concert chambers to have morning tea and we then went to our next activities.

For group 1's next activity we didn't go anywhere because our next activity was a performance and workshop with Java Dance Company. They first performed and then we did a workshop with the dancers. They make there own music and dance to it as well.
I really enjoyed this because they interacted with the audience and it makes you feel like you should be there.

We then had lunch and moved to our final activity for the day.
Our Final activity was watching a snippet from the production that Te Rehia Theater is doing on their tour of New Zealand. We then learnt some vocal warm ups and played some concentration games.

I really enjoyed the day we had in Auckland because it was different and it is usually very similar activities.

Maths

Today we started learning Algebra during Maths and we were learning patterns.

What is your favourite sub-subject in Maths? Mine is Basic Facts.

My Weekend

My weekend was pretty much just Hockey.
On Friday night I played a game and we won 7-4 and then I umpired a 7pm game.
Saturday morning I umpired a 10 and 11am under 11 game.
Saturday afternoon I umpired my first Senior Men's game at 1pm and my second Senior Men's game at 3:30pm. Umpiring Senior Men's is similar to Under 13's just a lot faster and sometimes they argue with you.
On Sunday I had Representative Trials for the Counties Manukau Coliier Team to go to the Collier Cup Tournament in Hamilton at the beginning of October.
I made the Collier Team last year and the Development Team the year before that.

I was very sore and tired after my weekend at the turf but I enjoyed it.

Friday 27 May 2016

Technology

On Thursday we do Tech (I tell you this every time). And we made Crepe's and American Pancakes. I made the crepe batter with Karlson and we started to cook them and then we swapped with Meagan and Chasity and we made some American pancakes.

I really enjoyed this and I am going to make them for Morning Tea during the weekend.

Footsteps Dancing

This morning we had Footsteps Dancing and we learnt the 'Cha Cha'.
It was a very simple dance to learn and was broken into 4 parts to learn. The Cha Cha is a partner dance and I was dancing with Harneet. The 4 parts we learnt it in were

  1. Basic Step - the girl steps back with their right foot and the boy steps forward and then back to the centre and you go, cha, cha, cha towards the front. Then you do it again but with the opposite foot and direction. Repeat once.
  2. Open Step - you release one hand to face the back and step with your middle foot and then go back to holding both hands and cha, cha, cha. Then do the same the other way. Repeat once.
  3. Cross Step - similar to basic step but you cross your feet (confusing to explain) and you do the cha, cha, cha.
  4. Turn Step - open step but on the last step you spin and then do the cha, cha, cha.

I enjoyed doing this dance because it is to a beat and it is really simple. This would be my favourite dance we have done.

Technology

On Thursday we had Food Tech!!!

At Tech we made Quesadilla's. We put mashed potato in them and it just didn't taste or look right because we also put ham, spinach, onion, garlic and some herbs.

We are learning about Fusion Foods. We learnt that the best potatoes for anything are Agria.

Fitness

At school we do fitness every morning. We start at 10:15 and then finish at 10:40 which is when morning tea starts.
Some of the activities are

  • Beep Test
  • Playground Course
  • Sprints
  • Relays (egg and spoon race/sack race)
  • And Many More
The groups are in there Houses and they do one activity a day.
The activity I am running with Harneet and Christina is a mix between the game numbers and netball. You have 5 steps with the ball and 3 bounces. If you stop moving for too long you have to do starjumps or push ups.

The game I originally the group didn't enjoy so I changed to the game I am running now.

Put in the comments what you do and fitness.

My Weekend

On Friday I had Hockey and I played and umpired. I umpired 2 games before and after I played. I play in the half position but I can also play in the backs and inners. We played against Pukekohe United Blue and we won 17-0. It was good to be scoring goals but the effect wears off after about 8 goals. One of Counties Manakau top umpires came and gave us feedback. The feedback he gave me was about positioning.
On Saturday morning I had to go to Hockey to umpire again,. I umpired 2 games. One at 9 am and one at 11 am. For the rest of the day I went and helped with firewood by driving the tractor.

On Sunday I did nothing but watch Neon on the iPad.

And that is my weekend.

My Past Few Days

On Thursday the 5th of May we had 2 teams entered in the 'Kids Lit Quiz' at St. Cuthberts College in Auckland. The teams were:
Team 1: Kaitlyn (me), Karlson, Samantha and Meagan.
Team 2: Ashton, Paris, Stella and Holly
Reserves: Josiah and Harneet

It was a great experience going up against 25 other schools.
My team got 58 points and the other team 56 points. It was a really fun night even though we got back to Papakura at 10:30pm. On the bus ride home it was really loud even though it was late and many people were tired.

The following Tuesday 10th of May there were a group of people from Rm 3 go to the Auckland Town Hall Auditorium for the 'Auckland Writers Festival'.
The people that went to the Festival were:

  • Kaitlyn (me)
  • Karlson
  • Ashton
  • Meagan
  • Lily
  • Sylaan
  • Harneet
  • Alysha
  • Samantha
  • Emma C
  • Emma R
  • Josiah
  • Nicholas
  • Chasity
It was an amazing day and the Authors we met were
  • Michael Grant
  • Tusiata Avia
  • Edward Carey
  • Ella West
Five lucky people went to a workshop with Denis Wright.
I had a great time and got Michael Grant's signature in the book we were given, the book is called 'Read The World Volume One'. In found Michael Grant very inspiring even though he didn't think so.

About The Authors

Michael Grant
I enjoyed Michael Grant because he didn't think he would be inspirational but I found him inspirational because he spoke from the heart not the head. He wrote the book series 'Gone' and 'BZRK'. I really liked the sound of his latest series 'Frontlines'. One of my favourite moments was the story he told us about walking through the house when his 16 year old daughter had friends over carrying a bottle of Scotch (whiskey) and 2 hand grenades going to his room.

Tusiata Avia
I enjoyed when she read us the poem she wrote called 'My Dog Bingo' and when she read it she used an accent I do not know. I didn't like her as much as Michael Grant but I enjoyed her asking us questions to think about instead of us asking her questions. One of her well known poems is 'Wild Dogs Under My Skirt'.

Edward Carey
I found Edward very distressed when he was explaining his books to us. He has written a trilogy called 'The Iremonger Trilogy'. I am not very interested with his books but the way he explained his characters to us was very intriguing. His trilogy is set in the Victorian Age.

Ella West
I didn't expect something like that from Ella West, the author of award winning book 'Night Vision'. I imagined her very different and to be honest I didn't get as much as I could have from her. The reason she wrote 'Night Vision' was because she wanted to write about night vision goggles and XP (Xeroderma Pigmentosum) which is a disease that means you are allergic to the sun,

I really enjoyed the day and would love to go again if I had the chance. I would also recommend going to the Festival. It is an AWESOME experience.

Footsteps Dancing

Today we had Footsteps Dancing.
At Footsteps Dancing we had Kate and Laura teach us a dance to a Michael Jackson song,
Start Something. We danced to the Glee Version because it has more of a beat.
The song we danced to was Starting Something.

I have never really enjoyed Footsteps but I liked it today because it was fast and upbeat.

We will be doing Footsteps Dance every Tuesday so look forward to hearing about it once a week same time same place!!!

My Holidays

On the 15th of April we finished school at 3 pm like a usual school day. The only difference was we weren't coming back for 2 weeks because it was school holidays.

Unless your me and the next week on Monday you turn up at school at 8:45 am and you head into the library for 'Girls Mean Business'.

'Girls Mean Business' was a holiday program for Girls aged 9 to 13. It was to learn about Entrepreneurship and how to kick start a business and do a business plan.
It was an enjoyable time and we worked with students from school and from other schools.
I learnt a lot and might even start my own small business to earn a bit of extra money.

On Monday the 25th of April it was ANZAC day and I went to the Dawn Parade and then went to the Civil Service with school and I laid the wreath with Meagan and Karlson. Because as school leaders we were chosen to lay the wreath.

After the ANZAC parade my family and I drove to Palmerston North where we stayed for the next week until we drove back on Sunday.
While in Palmerston North we went to Foxton Beach and swam and body surfed even though it was getting dark and freezing cold.

On Saturday we went to Wellington for the day and went to Te Papa museum and went through the Gallipoli: Scale of our War exhibit. Photos to come. The detail on the models are very very detailed right down to the hairs on the arms and facial hair. The most detailed part were the beads of sweat on the faces and arms. While in Wellington we went to see my Great Aunty and had drinks with her. It was a really great time because I don't get to see her much.

We went to Fielding to see my Great Grandad twice and the second time we took him Blackballs and a posy of flowers to brighten up his room. We took him blackballs because they have always been his favourite lollies. They came in really nice jars.

One day during the week we drove over to Pahiatua because that is where Mum grew up and we went to the playground and the flying fox went really low to the ground and it felt like you were going to hit the ground. My elbow scraped against the slide which you climb into. When you climb up it looks a lot steeper than on the ground and you go down really fast. I also hit the back of my head as I went down.

We went to my Grandpop's for lunch on Tuesday and went for a walk around the farm with him exploring his property. He then came over on Wednesday for dinner and we played Charades and card games like speed. When we played Speed I won almost every time because of luck and because I had the most experience.

On Friday night we went to the turf to watch Hockey. I had dinner while I was there and for dinner I had chips and they were better than the chips I get at Hockey in Auckland. We went to Hockey because my Great Uncle was umpiring and he used to be an International Umpire for New Zealand. While watching Hockey it was really hard to concentrate because 2 games were being played at once on different turfs so you had to watch bits of each game and I usually missed seeing goals being scored because I was watching the other game.

How My Day Is Shaping Up

It's Monday, the dreaded Monday.

I have come to school with a bucket load of supplies and we are going to make Cards after lunch for our teacher who isn't able to be in the classroom at the moment. I am into crafts as such and have brought a few things from home including some awesome coloured paper I have bought for this.

This morning we did a Maths Homework Sheet and I got 100% correct.

This is the middle block and we are doing our blogs and posting about tings we have done and doing.

Memorial White CrossMy weekend wasn't very exciting but I got a pin from the Waiouru Army Museum for ANZAC Day.
This is what it looks like...
Mum got a pile of letters with a Poppy on top and my sisters got different Poppies. '

That is all for today. Have fun reading.

Science with Matua Ivor

On Thursday before Room 3 went to Technology we had the privilege of Matua Ivor coming in to teach us a bit about it before we had to head off to Tech. We were looking at what has more energy, Hot or Cold water. But before we did the experiment we had to write down a few things. This is part of the stuff we had to write down.

We also had to write down our question to research
What has more energy, hot or cold water?

The group I worked with decided that hot water had more energy because...

  • When using food colour the colour moves out when dropped in hot water and just sinks when in cold water.
  • We also used pipettes to put drops of water into the water one drop at a time and look at the surface of the water and the surface of the water moves more on hot than cold water.
